Dr. Hernandez is a Marine Corps veteran and board-certified by the American College of Surgeons. He is a skilled general surgeon specializing in high-quality, evidence-based, and minimally invasive procedures. With a compassionate approach, Dr. Hernandez is dedicated to achieving excellent results while fiercely advocating for his patients.

Originally from Cuba, Dr. Hernandez emigrated to Miami as a teenager, where he completed high school before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. While the military, he attended community college and later earned his Bachelor’s in Science from Florida International University. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed his General Surgery residency at the University of South Florida. After his surgical training, he worked as a Trauma and Emergency General Surgeon before returning to Sarasota with his wife, Remie.

Dr. Hernandez is particularly interested in optimizing postoperative pain control and minimally invasive surgery, but he enjoys all aspects of general surgery, including emergency procedures. He also appreciates the importance of medical management for certain conditions and collaborates with his patients to develop strategies that align with their preferences.
